Friends and Family,

There have been some recent changes to our plans and we want to share the exciting news with you. As you may recall our plan was to visit Haiti for two months starting in January to work with an organization called CINRADD. Since making that decision God has placed before us a new opportunity to live and work in Haiti with a different organization. Although we will no longer be working with CINRADD in January, we hope to remain in contact with the organization.

As early as March we will be moving to Haiti to be the house parents of a new orphanage. It is being created by Open Doorways, which is a registered Canadian Charity based out of Manitoba and this is their first major project. We will therefore be involved in the beginning stages and will be able to watch it develop. The orphanage is located in the town of Deschapelles, about two hours north of Port au Prince.

It could be better described as a “children’s home” as it will be a permanent community for children. Other than ours, all other positions, including maintenance, kitchen, and care staff will be filled by Haitians – providing meaningful and dignified employment to local people. There are other goals to grow and reach into the surrounding area with development and community-based projects and programs. 

Although we know this will be an incredible challenge, we feel it is an amazing opportunity. We believe that through our previous employment and experiences God has been preparing us for this position. We also believe he has placed certain qualities in both of us that make us a great team for such an endeavour. We are excited to be a part of the process of building a loving home for Haitian children who have been orphaned or abandoned.

We are taking a huge step of faith and we will continue to need the support of our communities in Canada. There are a two ways in which you can support us. The first is through prayer. We will be starting a prayer list and if you would like to have your email address added please let us know. The second is through financial contributions. One-time donations will be a great help and we also hope to acquire some monthly or other types of regular donors.

Again we quote Proverbs 19:21 which says, “many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Although our plans have changed many times in the last 6 months, we know it is all leading us to the place where God wants us. We have peace knowing that he will complete his work in us and through us where ever we are.
