There was a large protest in Marseille on Saturday. It was only a block away from our hotel so we had to check it out. There was an impressive turn out in France’s second largest city. From what we could tell the variety of people present was as diverse as the flags being waved.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like this in Canada. I know this is a complex issue and I don’t know what the best solution for France is. I will say that after being at the protest I have a lot of respect for the people of France. They are standing up for themselves. Sometimes I wonder if Canadians are too complacent and apathetic when it comes to what our own government does or doesn’t do. Perhaps if we had a louder voice, we might actually be heard.
